This felt like a dip in quality for a series which has been consistently great, but maybe that’s because it was very exposition heavy. And most of that exposition was about the Externals, who have never been interesting. Plus I found myself thinking, “But isn’t Cannonball an External?” the whole time. Either that’s been forgotten about or retconned away since.
I have to confess that despite all of the exposition I still found it really hard to follow exactly what Apocalypse is up to.
I’m hoping for a return to form next issue.
